Why England, for a finial
Because a catalogue cannot help you.
Catalogue suppliers stock standard profiles. If your bed, staircase, drapery rod or gate is old, unusual, or simply a shape nobody sells any more, there is nothing to order — you need someone to turn a new one to match the old one.
We are a working pattern shop in Birmingham, England. Most of what leaves here is a one-off or a small matched set for a joiner, an interior designer, a furniture restorer or a homeowner with one irreplaceable thing. Any hardwood, any size within our limits, one piece or forty.

A photo with a ruler or a coin beside it for scale, a sketch, dimensions — or post us the original and we will send it back with the new one.
2 · We quote in two working days
A fixed price, with the goods, the freight and the US import duty on separate lines, priced both duty-paid and duty-on-arrival so you can see which suits you.
3 · We make it
Typically two to three weeks from your approval. If it is going to slip, you hear it from us before the date, not after.
4 · It ships to your door
From Birmingham, England, on whichever basis you chose at step two.
Shipping & duty into the US
Two ways to buy. We tell you which is cheaper.
Importing is the part that worries people, so we handle it. Our logistics team ships internationally every week and does the classification, the paperwork and the carrier booking.
One price, everything in it
We pay the US import duty and the customs brokerage, and it sits in your quote as a line you can see. Nothing to settle on arrival, no broker to deal with, no surprise invoice from the carrier.
Duty settled on arrival
The carrier collects duty from you at the door, as our shipping policy sets out. Often the cheaper route if you already hold an importer number or use a customs broker.
Minimum order $315 on standard items. Bespoke commissions are priced individually — tell us what you need and we will price it.
We are blunt about the minimum because freight and duty are a fixed cost per shipment, not a percentage. On a $150 order they come to roughly $95 — around 60% of the goods value. A matched set of four finials almost always makes sense; one small knob does not, and we would rather say so now than take the order and disappoint you.

Before you ask
The questions we actually get.
Can you match a finial I already have?
Yes — that is the main thing we do. Send the survivor or a photograph of it and we copy the profile.
What if I only have a photograph?
Usually enough, as long as something is beside it for scale. A ruler is ideal, a coin works. If we need more we will ask before quoting.
Will I get a customs bill?
Only if you choose DAP. On a duty-paid (DDP) quote we pay the duty and brokerage and it is already in the price, so there is nothing to settle on arrival. We quote both so you can pick.
Who works out the duty?
We do. Our logistics team handles classification, paperwork and the carrier, and the figure appears on your quote before you commit to anything.

Oak, beech, ash, walnut, tulipwood and others. Tell us what you are matching and we will suggest the closest.
Do you really take an order for one piece?
Yes, subject to the $315 minimum for US delivery — which exists because freight and duty are fixed per shipment, not because we mind small jobs.
