Description
Three rings dropped clear of the top, over a slender tapering shaft.
Three rings at ∅68, ∅60 and ∅52 sit in a 112 mm band that starts 110 mm down the leg, with plain shaft above them — so the rings float in the upper third rather than jamming against the underside of the top. Below the band the shaft runs slim and near‑parallel, ∅28 tapering to ∅24.
That is the whole design: a fat top section, a hard band, then almost nothing. The ring‑to‑shaft jump is close to 2.5:1, and the upper section stays deliberately fat because that is where the bending moment is — it is what lets the shaft below be as thin as it is.
The band is turned at ∅68 from a 70 mm board, leaving a single millimetre of skim on each face. Supplied with an angled seat for the hanger bolt so the leg rakes 6°.
Fitting note: the ∅24 foot is strong in compression but a sideways kick is what breaks a slender turned foot. Brass ferrules are recommended. Consoles, coffee tables and benches — not dining chairs.
Made to order in Birmingham
Turned by hand on the lathe at 9 Milk Street, one leg at a time, from solid hardwood. A set of four is turned in one batch off a single story stick so the legs agree with each other. Grain and figure vary from leg to leg — that is the material, not a fault.
Lead time 2–3 weeks.
Sizes and fitting
Lengths are listed above; other lengths within the range can be turned to order. These are console, coffee, bench and side‑table legs. Our lathe takes 700 mm between centres, so we cannot turn a dining‑height leg (711–737 mm) in this pattern — please ask before ordering if you need dining height.
Supplied unfinished-ready or oiled on request. Hanger bolts and T‑nuts can be fitted — tell us the top thickness.
