Description

Five knife-edged plates on a plain shaft. Ebonised tulipwood.

Five discs at 84 mm pitch, decaying from ∅66 down to ∅50 on a ∅36 to ∅32 shaft. Each disc is a real disc — a 30 mm cylindrical neck, a straight cone up, a knife edge, a straight cone down — so it reads as plates on a shaft rather than a wave.

The arris is the point. A sharp edge catches light as a bright ring, and it is what separates this from a reproduction bobbin. It cannot be power‑sanded — a mop rounds every edge — so finishing is hand work off the skew.

Ebonised American tulipwood only. Oak fuzzes along the ray and will not hold this edge; we will not make it in oak.

Made to order in Birmingham

Turned by hand on the lathe at 9 Milk Street, one leg at a time, from solid hardwood. A set of four is turned in one batch off a single story stick so the legs agree with each other. Grain and figure vary from leg to leg — that is the material, not a fault.

Lead time 2–3 weeks.

Sizes and fitting

Lengths are listed above; other lengths within the range can be turned to order. These are console, coffee, bench and side‑table legs. Our lathe takes 700 mm between centres, so we cannot turn a dining‑height leg (711–737 mm) in this pattern — please ask before ordering if you need dining height.

Supplied unfinished-ready or oiled on request. Hanger bolts and T‑nuts can be fitted — tell us the top thickness.

Images for this new pattern are design visualisations drawn from the turning coordinates, not photographs of stock. How we use AI tools, including for imagery, is explained in our Content & AI Use Policy.
