Milk Street Bobbin Leg — Solid Oak Bobbin Turned Furniture Legs, Set of 4

Bobbin legs, turned by hand from a single stick of solid hardwood.

Six graduated beads run the whole length of the leg — no plain shaft, no taper, and no glue line crossing a bead. Most bobbin legs are cut on a duplicator from laminated stock, with joints running straight through the beads. Ours are turned one at a time between centres, so the grain runs unbroken from the pommel to the foot.

The beads swell gently toward the middle and ease again at the base, which is what gives a bobbin leg its spring rather than making it look like a stack of balls.

• Timber: solid oak, African walnut, or paint-grade pine
• Fixing: M8 hanger bolt and T-nut fitted as standard (M10 on request)
• Finish: hard wax oil, or raw sanded to 150 grit if you'd rather finish them yourself
• Sold as a matched set of four, turned in one batch so they agree with each other

What they suit

Coffee tables, benches, footstools and ottomans at 43cm. Side tables and bedside cabinets at 30–38cm.

A note on dining tables

We don't make these at dining height. A 29-inch dining leg is 737mm and our lathe takes 700mm between centres — so rather than joint a leg and pretend otherwise, we stop at coffee-table height and say so.

Every leg is turned to order in our own workshop. Because each is turned by hand, grain and figure vary from leg to leg — that is rather the point of them. Lead time 2–3 weeks.
